New computer acting up |
Quote |
ok, i recentyl got a new compy after saving enough to get a decent one but it's acting up. when i play 3rd person games, sometimes they get stuck for like, half a sec and then the graphics are suddenly distorted. Also, my computer somtimes shuts itself down for some reason and when i turn it back on the screen stays in power-save mode with the orange light but the computer is beeping, not from speakers, but the computer itself and the light on it flashes in sync with the beeps.
my graphics card is GeForce GT 9400 with 1gb, my RAM is 4gb intel's quad core, and i'm getting 550W electricty, so what's going on here?

I'd rather guess graphics card getting too hot/being malfunctioning.
If you can (without needing to buy one), try swapping it.

i've had some people tell me it might be overheating as well which is fairly odd because I also customized my cooling system, it's a single 8" fan.

One fan for everything or just on the graphics card (the new one I got three weeks ago has a pretty big one)?

Here some ideas they are rather old but usually still help. First go into your bios (be really careful here a mistake in bios can possibly mean your pc will be unusable ) and do the following:
1 Make sure your video card is set correctly in your bios.
2. Turn off the bios anti-virus
3. Turn off auto shutdown when computer reaches a certain temperature (might say cpu temperature or something like that. )
4. After starting windows (hope I am correct in that assumption) set your virtual memory to a constant size say 1gb on each hdd. So it does not jump around on you which can cause problems if it does.
5. In admin tools services disable everything that you do not need. Easy to check most things that do not have under dependencies anything listed for " The following system components depend on this service " are 8 out of 10 times safe to disable.
6. Set your 3d settings on your video card to custom start with performance setting work up to quality settings until you can not go further then drop back one setting.
The system speaker beeping sounds like your system is failing to complete the first few stages of the boot sequence or that the hdd is not starting properly.

I didn't see your operating system listed but I tell you now nya.
My brother and I cannot use Vista for anything involving games. My brother installed XP on a partition just for games. Even 7 isn't great with the graphics stuff, His labtop and my computer once overheat a lot on vista. And He can not even play Ragnarok Online extended on 7 and his labtop can handle Bioshock....

The reason for that is your computer sucks. You cannot upgrade an old single core peace of shit to run games on Vista and 7. Vista will suck up ALL of your processing power and while 7 is much better at this, it still requires a good bit to run basic functions. And so there is little left over for gaming.
